Surprising exactly no one, Activision announced the existence of their 2017 installment of Call of Duty. However, what was a bit of a surprise was what the setting would be. For better or worse, recent forays have taken players further and further into the future. But in 2017 we’ll be traveling back in time to WW2 in this Fall’s Call of Duty: WWII.

Call of Duty: WWII

We’ve known for a few months that Activation and this year’s developer, Sledgehammer Games, were aiming to head in a new direction. We also covered some leaked documentsĀ on The Alpha Build that suggested a jump back in time. With today’s announcement that was confirmed.

Activision’s announcement is really just the sound of the hype train turning on. Because no one can just reveal without a Twitch.tv stream, we have to wait until Wednesday April 26 at 1pm EST to get our first look at the game.

Remember when we used to just get a trailer instead of announcement announcements?
